Anthers glabrous. Heath-like undershrub 50–150 cm high, glabrous or with a minute pubescence. Leaves numerous, crowded, narrow-linear or almost terete, 10–20 mm long. Flowers terminal, solitary or 2–3 together. Sepals 5, broad-triangular. Petals 5, imbricate in the bud, pink to purple or bluish, 7–12 mm long. Stamens 10; filament hairs not concealing anthers. Carpels 5, nearly free except the style. Widespread. Heath and DSF. Sandy soils. Fl. spring–summer
