Leaf sheaths white to pale brown at the margins, disintegrating into a lattice. Male flowers with inner perianth segments connate above the middle, 2 mm long. Female flowers with almost free segments. Leaves flat to concave, 5–30 cm long, 1–2 mm wide, glaucous. Male inflorescence a small panicle of clusters, 2–12 cm long; the scape shorter. Female inflorescence a solitary head; scape up to 3 cm long, concealed in the leaf bases. Widespread. Heath and DSF. Sandy soils
