Spikelets 6 or more flowered. Flowers falling from spikelet leaving persistent rhachilla, glumes falling away at maturity
Inflorescence apparently lateral. Bracts 2, the upper glume-like, the lower erect and appearing to be a continuation of the culm. Nut dorsally compressed, plano-convex, with the flat side against the rhachilla. Culms erect, 3-angular or terete, up to 40 cm high. Spikelets 1–16 or more, clustered, sessile, spreading, subterete, subacute. Perennial with short or long creeping rhizome. Coast. In margins of lagoons or other wet places. Not common in the area Cyperus laevigatus
