Awn hairy with ± spreading white hairs up to 2 mm long, especially towards the base
Hairs on the awn more than 1 mm long. Lemma 6–8 mm long; awn 7–9 cm long, with 2 bends; the column 1 cm long, twisted. Panicle dense, 20–25 cm long. Tufted perennials up to 80 cm high. Leaf blades inrolled, 20–30 cm long. Coast. Sandy soils and rocky areas. Fl. summer. Soft Spear Grass Austrostipa mollis
