Anterior petal elliptic to circular, broadest in middle third; distinctly three-nerved, central nerves scarcely anastomising; 8–10 mm long with a large green patch at base, middle section deep violet distinctly bordering white tip. Lateral petals bearded. Leaves orbicular with deeply cordate bases; margins with prominent teeth. Seed glossy black. Perennial stoloniferous herb. Stems contracted, leaves forming rosettes. Widespread. Coastal in moist areas. Headlands, swamps, RF and WSF margins. Fl. spring–summer
