Stems villous-pubescent; the hairs ± patent and tending to be denser in two broad indistinct longitudinal bands. Leaves ovate to broad-ovate, crenate or dentate with obtuse teeth. Calyx segments obtuse, 4–5 mm long when in flower, enlarging in the fruit. Widespread. Open forests. Fl. spring–summer
