Perennial herbs. Leaves alternate, entire or dissected. Heads in terminal corymbs. Involucre hemispherical. Involucral bracts in several rows. Outer row of florets female; the ray sometimes scarcely developed. Disc florets bisexual, tubular. Cypselas 5-ribbed or 3–5-angled. Pappus a short membranous crown or absent.
