Erect, glabrous herb. Leaves alternate, fleshy, obovate to spathulate, 3–6 cm long, obtuse or acuminate at the apex, tapering to a petiole at the base; stipules absent. Flowers c. 4 mm diam., on filiform pedicels, in a loose cymose panicle 30–60 cm long. Petals pink. Fruit scarlet, globular, 3–4 mm diam. Garden escape near habitation. Introd. from S. America
