Weak, ascending annual with spreading hairs. Leaves ovate, petiolate, 15–40 mm long, regularly crenate. Flowers 2–6 in each verticillate cyme, forming a loose leafy spike-like thyrse. Calyx 5-toothed, 5–7 mm long; the teeth as long as the tube. Corolla pale purple, scarcely longer than the calyx. Stamens 4, in pairs, enclosed in the upper lip. Widespread. Weed of cultivation and waste places. Introd. from Europe and Asia. Fl. winter–spring. Stagger Weed
