Tufted perennial with fibrous roots. Leaves radical, linear, 20–50 cm long, 1–1.8 mm wide. Flowers in dense terminal umbellate clusters. Perianth segments 6, ± scarious, pink-lilac, free, persistent but not spirally twisted after flowering. Stamens 3; anther lobes linear; 3 staminodes alternating with stamens. Ovary 3-locular, with 3 ovules per loculus. Fruit a capsule. Widespread. Wet heath. Fl. spring
