Leaves cordate with broad rounded auricles, glabrous, glaucous; stem-clasping. Leaves ovate-oblong or lanceolate, up to 20 cm long, entire or coarsely dentate. Heads 5–80 in a terminal corymb. Involucre cylindrical to campanulate, 3–5 mm diam.; bracts 12–16, 5–7 mm long. Ray florets c. 10; ray yellow, c. 10 mm long. Cypselas 2–4 mm long, brown. Pappus 3–5 mm long. Erect perennial up to 1.5 m high, sometimes ± shrubby. Widespread. Open forests; RF. Fl. spring–autumn
