Herb up to c. 50 cm high, much branched. Leaves alternate, pinnate; the segments filiform, 2–3 cm long. Heads numerous, terminal on branches, pedunculate. Involucre tubular to conical, 7–8 mm long, 3–4 mm diam.; bracts few, elliptic, with hyaline tips. Ray floret solitary, female; rays yellowish, scarcely exceeding the involucre. Disc florets c. 6, bisexual. Cypselas c. 4 mm long, flat, pappus of several pink scales c. 1 mm long. Weed of waste places in the drier parts of the area, usually on clay. Introd. from S. America.
