Erect or diffuse herbs with stems up to 20 cm high. Leaves sessile, undulate, broad-lanceolate, 3–4 cm long, 7–18 mm wide, with numerous parallel veins . Flowers usually solitary on slender pedicels. Perianth 15 mm diam., pale lilac; segments 6, subequal, free, convolute around the stamens in bud. Stamens 6. Ovary 3-locular, with several ovules per loculus; style 3-fid. Fruit a globular almost fleshy capsule. Widespread. Shady places. Fl. spring
