Aquatic fern often forming vast carpets on slow-moving water. Plants c. 5–20 cm long. Foliar leaves almost orbicular, deeply cordate at the base, 1.5–3 cm long, 1.5–3 cm broad, clothed on the upper surface with hairs surmounted by a basket-like structure of 4 incurved cells joined at the apex; the veins very close together. Coast and Cumberland Plain. Floating on the surface of the water in dams, ponds and lagoons. Introd. from S. America
