Spikelets with 2 florets, paired, unequal, 1 sessile and 1 pedicellate with the pedicel fused to the rhachis, half embedded in the rhachis; lower floret male; upper floret bisexual. Glumes subequal, obtuse or truncate. Inflorescence a solitary spike-like raceme up to 12 cm long. Erect annual up to 3 m high with proproots. Leaf blades flat, up to 3 cm wide, with stiff hairs particularly on the sheath; ligule membranous, truncate. Mangrove Mt. Grassland. Probably introd. from N. Australia
