Erect to spreading, monoecious or dioecious shrubs. Leaves opposite or alternate; margins revolute or recurved; stipules absent. Flowers in terminal clusters, pedicellate; males and females often in same clusters. Calyx 4–6-lobed. Petals 4–6, white. Male flowers with numerous stamens connate into a column. Female flowers with 3-locular ovary. Fruit a capsule.
