Shrub up to 2 m high with slender spreading branches. Leaves elliptic to obovate, 4–5 cm long, 2–3.5 cm wide, glabrous, stiff, dentate, strongly reticulate. Flowers in terminal cymes. Sepals 5. Petals 5, white or pinkish. Styles 2–3. Fruit a pome, purplish or bluish, with 2–3 papery-walled carpels. A garden escape naturalized in urban areas. Introd. from S. China. Indian Hawthorn
