Erect, annual herb often more than 1 m high, ± beset with stiff hairs. Lower leaves lyrate, 8–25 cm long. Flowers in multiple racemes. Petals pale yellow, 10 mm long. Fruit with 2 articles; upper one globular, 3–4 mm diam., ribbed, 1-seeded; lower one cylindrical, 1-seeded or seedless; style persistent forming a slender subulate beak (Fig. 40 l). Pedicels shorter than the fruit. Widespread. Weed of roadsides; railway enclosures. Introd. from Europe. Turnip Weed
