Annual or biennial herb up to 50 cm high, woolly white. Leaves alternate; lower leaves obovate to oblong or spathulate, up to 7 cm long; upper leaves linear to lanceolate. Heads in a dense terminal cluster. Involucre c. 4 mm diam.; bracts scarious, brown or straw-coloured, with obtuse scarious tips, not spreading. Outer florets filiform, female; inner florets tubular, bisexual. Cypselas c. 0.5 mm long, hairy. Pappus of 8–12 bristles. Widespread. Weed in almost all situations. Fl. spring–summer. Jersey Cudweed
