Small, perennial herb or low shrub, much branched, sometimes suckering, erect or diffuse, usually ± hirsute, sometimes glabrous. Leaves ovate to lanceolate, 7–15 mm long. Flowers minute, united by their calyces into simple heads; heads arranged in a simple terminal umbel which is sessile within the uppermost leaves; umbel rays 4–12 mm long. Compound fruit a cluster of capsules. Widespread. Heath and DSF. Fl. spring
