Hairs of the undersurface of the leaves forming a very close greyish tomentum with some scattered longer hairs also. Leaves ovate to narrow-ovate, 2–8 cm long, glabrous on the upper surface; margins slightly recurved. Flowers numerous in terminal panicles which are often leafy at the base. Floral tube and sepals together c. 3 mm long; the lower part silky hairy; the lobes sparingly hairy. Petals sometimes present. Shrub 1–3 m high. Widespread. Open forests. Fl. spring
