Glabrous, herbaceous perennial. Stems erect or ascending, 30–100 cm high, creeping, rooting at the nodes. Leaves lanceolate, 10–15 cm long, tapering towards the sheathing base, often with a crisped margin near the base. Flowers in a terminal cymose bracteate panicle. Sepals much imbricate. Petals 4–6 mm long, usually blue. Fertile stamens 3; staminodes 3. Fruit an ovoid, blue, shining nut c. 6 mm long; pericarp brittle. Widespread. In or near RF
