Herbaceous perennial climber of very rapid growth, climbing by means of leaf tendrils. Leaves pinnate, alternate; leaflets in 2–3 pairs; stipules absent. Flowers solitary on long peduncles. Sepals 5. Corolla 3–4 cm diam., tubular; lobes 5, spreading. Stamens 5, epipetalous. Ovary 3-locular, superior; placentas axile. Fruit a capsule. Garden escape, naturalized in a few places, e.g. Berowra Creek. Introd. from trop. America. Fl. spring–summer.
