Platylobium Sm.

4 species endemic Aust.; Qld, NSW, Vic., Tas.

Shrubs up to 1 m high. Leaves simple, opposite, strongly reticulate, glabrous, ovate to ovate-lanceolate, cordate, mucronate, 2–5 cm long. Flowers axillary, solitary or 2 or rarely 4 together; peduncles with brown scarious imbricate bracts. Calyx hairy, 5-lobed; upper 2 lobes broad, c. twice as long as the narrow lower ones. Corolla yellow and red. Stamens connate into a sheath open above. Ovules c. 8. Legume flat, oblong, 2–4 cm long, stipitate, opening and rolling back from the lower suture; upper suture bordered by a narrow wing.
