Dioecious, annual or perennial herb. Leaves opposite, elliptic-oblong, up to 5 mm long, entire to sinuate, petiolate. Flowers very small in axillary clusters; male flowers 3–4-merous; female flowers 3-merous, with 3 staminodes. Fruit a compressed nut within the persistent perianth segments. Naturalized near Swansea.
