Ascending to decumbent, softly glandular hairy herb up to 80 cm high. Leaves alternate, elliptic to obovate or narrow-obovate, up to 7 cm long. Flowers solitary on peduncles longer than the subtending leaves. Corolla white, 4–6 cm diam.; tube longer than the calyx. Stamens 4 with 1 staminode. Ovary 2-locular. Fruit a 2-valved capsule 8–12 mm long. Coast. Waste places. Introd. from S. America. Fl. spring–summer
