Lower glume 25–35% the length of the spikelet. Panicle partly exserted, branches slender, ± 3-angled at base; primary branches spreading, secondary branches appressed. Spikelets 2.5–3.5 mm long. Leaf blade 3–8 mm wide. Erect to decumbent annual, often tinged with purple, to 70 cm long. Introd. from Africa. Fl. summer
