Panicle 20 cm long, as broad as long, pyramidal in outline with the main branches mostly horizontal. Spikelets 2 mm long. Leaf blades 2–6 mm wide. Perennial up to 50 cm high. Widespread. Usually on sandy soils. Fl. spring–summer. Poison Panic or Hairy Panic
