Shrubs. Leaves alternate, usually entire, usually sessile. Heads in clusters or large umbellate corymbs. Involucre usually small; bracts papery or scarious, inner bracts with spreading tips. Florets all tubular or a few filiform. Receptacle without scales or scales 0–3 and many less than florets. Cypselas oblong, glabrous hairy or papillose. Pappus of barbellate hairs.
