Fresh water aquatic herb with a perennial rootstock. Leaves radical; petioles long, dilated at the base; laminas mostly ovate or elliptic, 4–10 cm long, floating on the surface. Flowers bisexual, 3–4 cm diam., solitary, sessile, within a 2-lobed tubular spathe on a long peduncle. Corolla white or pale yellow. Stamens 6–12; anthers linear. Styles 6, 2-lobed. Coast. In ponds.
