Leaves lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, usually 10–40 mm long, occasionally smaller. Whole plant scabrous-pubescent to almost glabrous. Variable shrub up to 2 m high. Widespread. Heath and DSF. Sandy and clay soils. Fl. spring–summer
