Plants erect, up to 30 cm high, perennial, sometimes flowering in the first year, usually much branched near the base. Leaves 4–10 mm long, linear-lanceolate to oblong or elliptic; margins recurved. Calyx broadly campanulate, 2–3 mm long. Corolla tube broad, c. as long as the calyx; lobes spreading, as long as the tube. Peduncles terminal, simple or sparingly branched, bearing an irregular umbel of 3–5 flowers on filiform pedicels. Widespread. Heath. Sandy soils. Fl. spring–summer
