Trailing or twining pubescent herb. Leaves alternate, with 3 ovate leaflets , 2–7 cm long, 18–50 mm wide, whitish below, stipellate; lateral leaflets lobed. Flowers in erect racemes. Petals very dark purple especially the wings which flutter in the wind. Upper stamen free. Legume reflexed, linear, up to 10 cm long. Coast. Pastures and waste places. Introd. from N. America.
