Terrestrial plants, branched anisotomously; main stems long, indeterminate, rooting at intervals on the lower surface; aerial shoots erect, simple or much divided (in L. lateralis with irregularly, laterally branched underground stems). Strobili either; erect and ending simple or forked branches which arise dorsally; or, sessile and nodding. Sporophylls modified. Sporangia subglobose or reniform. Spores rugulate.
