Tufted, perennial herbs, ± woody towards the base. Leaves towards the base, linear to obovate, up to 10 cm long. Heads solitary on leafless scapes. Involucre hemispherical, 3–4 cm diam.; bracts in several rows, all petaloid, spreading, 8–10 mm long, pure white, or tinged with pink-brown or yellow; inner bracts with a claw. Florets all tubular. Receptacle without scales. Cypselas glabrous, 2 mm long. Pappus of hairs 5–6 mm long.
