Panicle 7–15 cm long, mostly 1–2 cm wide rarely to 3 cm narrow-oblong, erect, branches ± appressed to central rhachis. Culms convex on both sides, often more than 1 m high but sometimes less. Leaves often as long as the culms, c. 5 mm wide. Glumes lanceolate. Nut greyish. Outer perianth scales lanceolate, c. as long as the inner ones but both whorls often irregular in length. Widespread. Swamps. Usually on sandstone outcrops
