Shrubs ± covered with stellate rust-coloured hairs. Leaves coriaceous, whitish or rust-coloured underneath, often glabrous on upper surface, without stipules. Flowers bisexual, in small axillary drooping or reflexed cymes which are loose or contracted almost into heads or apparently in simple racemes. Calyx 5-lobed nearly to the base, persistent, not much enlarging after flowering, usually with 3 bracteoles. Petals minute and scale-like or absent. Stamens 5, alternating with the calyx lobes. Staminodes absent. Ovary usually 3-locular, tomentose. Capsule shorter than the calyx.
