Shrubs. Leaves mostly alternate, linear to linear-lanceolate. Flowers sessile or sometimes pedunculate, usually arranged in short leafy spikes or terminal heads, sometimes with an involucre of scale-like bracts. Floral tube shortly continued above the ovary. Sepals 5. Petals 5, white to deep pink. Stamens numerous, free, longer than the petals, arranged in one or more whorls, sometimes with a small globular appendage on the anther. Ovary 2–5-locular, with 2 or more ovules per loculus. Fruit a thin-walled capsule.
