Stipes dark red-brown or purplish-red. Main rhachis red-brown or purplish red or orange-red, with scattered, dark red tubercles. Hairs of the costae and costules with brownish lumina. Rhizome 1–2 mm diam. Plants 30–60 cm high. Blue Mts. Mountain gullies near creeks or in swampy land
