Small trees or shrubs, glabrous, monoecious, with milky latex. Leaves spirally arranged, broad-ovate, acuminate, thin, paler and prominently penniveined beneath, often turning red with age. Flowers small in terminal narrow racemes often exceeding the leaves. Perianth irregularly truncate or 2-lobed. Male flowers 2–3 mm diam., numerous, clustered; stamens few, free; disc absent. Female flowers few, pedicellate, at the base of the raceme; ovary 2-locular, with 1 ovule per loculus; styles 2, linear, entire. Fruit glaucous, compressed, 8–10 mm wide.
