Shrubs. Leaves in whorls of 3–4. Flowers axillary, solitary, with a pair of bracteoles under the calyx. Calyx 5-toothed, Corolla purplish or bluish, with a dilated throat; the upper lip erect, ± concave, emarginate or 2-lobed; the lower lip longer than the upper, spreading, 3-lobed, the middle lobe larger and often itself 2-lobed. Stamens 4 or 2 with 2 staminodes. Articles reticulate-rugose.
