Dioecious small tree or shrub, glabrous except the inflorescence and young shoots. Leaves ovate-elliptic to broad-lanceolate, 5–10 cm long, shortly acuminate, irregularly toothed to almost entire, thin, not rigid, on rather long petioles. Flowers unisexual, in short axillary raceme-like cymes. Floral tube hemispherical or flat, with 6–10 small inflexed perianth segments. Male flowers with numerous stamens covering the disc. Female flowers with numerous carpels. Aggregate fruit globular, 6–8 mm diam., with 10–20 drupes closely packed together. Widespread. In or near RF. Fl. spring. Native Mulberry
