Erect, minutely pubescent undershrub up to 80 cm high. Flowers arranged in ± compact long spikes; spikes 1–few on each branch, not corymbose. Leaves linear, up to 15 mm long, sometimes fasciculate towards the top. Corolla with a long 4-lobed upper lip; the lower lip represented by a rudimentary tooth or absent, whitish with a dark orange throat. Coastal sand dunes near Newcastle. Introd. from Africa. Fl. most of the year
