Perennial herbs with a creeping rootstock; the stems ascending occasionally up to 30 cm high. Leaves opposite, sessile, ovate to narrow-lanceolate, 10–25 mm long, serrate to almost entire. Flowers axillary, solitary. Calyx segments 5, occasionally 3 or 4, linear-lanceolate, 6 mm long, with 2 linear bracteoles at the base. Corolla 10–15 mm long, white or pale-coloured, tubular, shortly 2-lipped; upper lip 2-lobed or notched; lower lip 3-lobed, spreading. Fertile stamens 2, enclosed in the corolla tube. Capsule broad-ovoid, 4-valved, nearly as long as the calyx.
