Scrambling or climbing, semi-epiphytic, slightly woody perennial. Young branches and leaves hirsute. Leaves ovate to elliptic or almost lanceolate, pale underneath, opposite; the pairs often very unequal in size; the larger 4–7 cm long; the smaller sometimes less than 1 cm long and almost sessile. Flowers axillary, solitary on pendulous peduncles. Bracteoles broad, up to 10 mm long. Calyx tubular, 5-lobed; lobes c. as long as the bracteoles. Corolla tubular, greenish yellow, ± irregular; the tube c. 3 cm long; the lobes very short. Stamens 4. Ovary 2-locular, superior; placentas axile. Fruit a berry, whitish. Widespread. RF, mostly on tree fern trunks. Fl. summer
