Heads 3–3.5 mm diam. Heads in an interrupted inflorescences the main axis visible from the terminal head down. Involucre bracts in 5–7 rows, apices sharply acute, commonly tinged with purple. Leaves narrow-elliptic to spathulate, up to 3 cm long and 8 mm wide. Erect to procumbent herb up to 20 cm high. Coast. Weed of cultivation and waste places. Introd. from S. America. Fl. spring–summer
