Shrub up to 1.5 m high. Leaves alternate, pinnatisect, elliptic to obovate in outline, up to 8 cm long and 2 cm wide, glabrous except sometimes for tufts of hair in the axils. Heads solitary in the leaf axils. Involucre 3–5 mm diam.; bracts fused for the lower third, c. 5 mm long. Ray florets female; rays yellow, 14–18 mm long. Cypselas up to 0.5 mm long. Pappus absent. Coast. Weed on roadsides. Introd. from S. Africa. Fl. winter–spring
