Palea 3-toothed. Seed globose, honeycomb. Panicle spreading, 20–30 cm long, 10–27 cm wide, axils of lower primary branches sparsely hairy. Spikelets, 2–4 mm long, c. 1 mm wide with 3–5 florets; pedicels 2–6 times longer than the spikelets. Tufted perennial with culms up to 45 cm high. Leaf blades flat to inrolled, 2–3 mm wide. Widespread. Open forests. Fl. summer
