Perennial herbs. Leaves spirally arranged, covered above with glandular hairs and bordered with longer ones which are usually irritable, closing over small insects; stipules present or absent. Flowers regular, bisexual. Sepals and petals 5 or rarely 4, free, imbricate. Stamens as many as petals and alternating with them, hypogynous. Ovary superior, 1-locular, with parietal placentas. Fruit a small capsule (Fig. 28).
