Climbers, shrubs or small trees. Leaves alternate, simple, margins entire or sometimes toothed or lobed. Flowers solitary, in cymes or racemes. Sepals and petals 3 to many, usually 5. Petals yellow, often falling early. Stamens hypogynous, 3 to many, staminodes sometimes present. Carpels superior, free, 2 to 5, up to 20 in some genera. Styles free, simple. Fruit a cluster of follicles. 12 gen., trop. and subtrop., S.E. Asia, Aust.
